Ehime Prefecture (Japanese: 愛媛県) is a prefecture of Japan location on the northwestern part of Shikoku. It covers 5,676.44 sq km and has a population of 1.43 million people. The capital of Ehime Prefecture is the city of Matsuyama.
Ehime Prefecture was created during the Meiji Restoration from the former Iyo Province. It faces the Inland Sea and is bordered by Kagawa Prefecture and Tokushima Prefecture to the east, and Kochi Prefecture to the south.
Traditionally a land of fishermen, Ehime Prefecture has since industrialized. Today its economy is supported by shipbuilding, oil refining, textile and petrochemicals. Agriculture and fishing still play an important role here. The local produce include citrus fruits such as the mikan (tangerine) and the iyokan, and cultured pearls.
Ehime Prefecture can be reached on the Matsuyama Expressway and Takamatsu Expressway. The local airport at Matsuyama also receives domestic flights from Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
