Aichi Prefecture 愛知県

Aichi Prefecture (Japanese: 愛知県) is a prefecture of Japan within the Chubu region of Honshu. It covers 5,154 sq km and is ranked 28th in size of the 47 prefectures of Japan. The prefecture has a population of 7.4 million people (2011 estimate), making it the 4th most populous in the country. Its main city and prefectural capital is Nagoya.

Aichi Prefecture was named in 1872 from the former Nagoya Prefecture and was merged with Nukata Prefecture later that year. Located at the center of Honshu island, Aichi Prefecture faces Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay. It borders Shizuoka Prefecture to the east, Nagano Prefecture to the north, Gifu Prefecture to the northwest and Mie Prefecture to the west.

The main airport serving Aichi Prefecture is the new Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO), which serves as the main airport for Nagoya. Opened in 2005, it is the third major international gateway to Japan after Narita and Kansai. It offers seamless connection from international to domestic flights. There are trains and buses from the airport to Nagoya and other cities in the Chubu region.
