Jalan Thean Teik, Ayer Itam, Penang (28 December 2020)
Jalan Thean Teik, formerly Thean Teik Road, is a major road in Ayer Itam, Penang. Until the development of the Farlim township in the early 1980s, the road led to Thean Teik Estate, a plantation land owned by the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi. The clan association purchased the land in the 1920s and named it after its most illustrious leader, 19th century personality, Khoo Thean Teik.
Present-day Thean Teik Road connects Jalan Air Itam to the Farlim Intersection, where it intersects Lebuhraya Thean Teik, and continues as Jalan Angsana. The prime mover in the redevelopment of the Thean Teik Estate is the Farlim Group, which is why the township is also called Farlim.
Even as the land in Thean Teik Estate made way for residential development, much of the public facilities along Thean Teik Road continues to bear the fingerprints of its principal land owner, the Khoo clan association. These include the primary school, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Sin Kang, named after the Khoo ancestral village, and the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi Funeral Parlour.
