The area along Jalan Permatang Bendahari, in particular near the Muda River, is one with some historical interest. The road ends at an old jetty that dates back to the 19th century, and is about the same age as Kota Kuala Muda.

Permatang Bendahari, of which cames the name of Jalan Permatang Bendahari, was originally known as Permatang Bendari. This refers to the chief cook of the king. Nevertheless, the locals over time begin calling the place Permatang Bendahari instead.
