Devotees taking the plunge into the Ganges at Ahilyabai Ghat, Varanasi. (16 November, 2004)

The
Ahilyabai Ghat is located south of
Dashaswamedh Ghat, between
Ranamahal Ghat and
Munshi Ghat. When it was built in 1778, it was the first ghat to be named after a person, in this case, Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore who constructed it as well as Visvesvara Ghat in 1778.
I passed through Ahilyabai Ghat when I was riverbank of the Ganges. I also saw it from the river when I went boating in the morning. Although this is a wide ghat, it slopes, so there isn't many people here, except for dhobies doing laundry.
