The Notting Hill Gate Tube Station dates back to 1 October 1868, when it was opened by the Metropolitan Railway. In the early years, its name is similar to that of the Notting Hill Tube Station, which has since 1938 been renamed as the Ladbroke Grove Tube Station. The entrance to the Notting Hill Gate Tube Station was rebuilt in the late 1950's and since then served the Circle, District and Central Lines.
The Notting Hill Gate Tube Station is undergoing another round of modernisation in 2010, with the introduction of new ceramic tile finishes.
