London Olympic Park, London
London Olympic Park is a 2.5 sq km sporting venue presently under construction in
Stratford, in the
London Borough of Newham, in East London.
The London Olympic Park will be the main venue of the 2012 London Olympics. Among the stadiums presently under construction there include the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the Hockey Centre, the Basketball Arena, the Handball Arena, the London Velopark and the Eton Manor. There will also be an Olympic Village as the living quarters of the visiting athletes. Located adjacent to the London Olympic Park is the
Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre, the biggest shopping mall in Europe, scheduled to opened in late 2011. Not all the sports will be played here. Volley Ball, for example, has been relocated to the
Earls Court Exhibition Centre.
Careful attention is paid to create a green atmosphere. The area between the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatic Centre, stretching for half a mile, will be planted with gardens showcasing the British love for gardening and plants. Visitors will be able to view the different plants from all over the world and how they came to the United Kingdom.
