The local-style curry puffs are shell-shaped pastry pie. The name is often written also as kari pap. It is known in Mandarin as 咖哩角 and is written in Thai as กะหรี่ปั๊บ. The curry puff is filled with a chicken-and-potato dry curry. You can find hawkers selling kari pap in most markets and pasar malam in Penang. The hawkers are usually Malay and Chinese and some times Indian. In Malay, the kari pap is also often known as epok-epok, though the term kari pap is gaining traction.
In addition to chicken meat and potatoes, some curry puffs also have filling of beef, mutton and occasionally pork.
