Cheeseman Road starts at Green Lane, across from the Penang Free School. From there, it heads west, where it is intersected first by Kennedy Road and then Jalan Sir Hussein and Lengkok Ariff. It then bends to the left to form a junction with Taylor Road. Between the intersections of Jalan Sir Hussein and Lengkok Ariff, Cheeseman Road forms a circus surrounding the playing ground of Cheeseman Green.
Cheeseman Road was created in the late 1920s when the former plantation land made way for housing. The road was named in honour of Harold Ambrose Robinson Cheeseman, who began the scouting movement in Penang at the Penang Free School on 27 March, 1915. The school honours him by naming one of the sports houses after him. The Cheeseman house colour is red.
