Bank Simpanan Nasional is a savings bank owned by the Government of Malaysia. The bank was established on 1 December, 1974, under the Ministry of Finance, to take over the functions and responsibilities of the Post Office Savings Bank, whose history goes back all the way to the late 19th century, when savings banks were established in Perak and Selangor, in 1888 and 1893 respectively. Over the years, these became Federated Malay States Post Office Savings Bank, while separately, the Straits Settlements and the Unfederated Malay States also have their own Post Office Savings Banks.
Today Bank Simpanan Nasional has close to four hundred branches throughout the country, including the following in Penang.
