Real Estate Review: Taman Desa Ria, Sungai Ara
Taman Desa Ria is a major housing estate in Sungai Ara, Penang. It occupies the land which was formerly the Sungai Ara Estates belonging to the family of David Brown, one of the largest land owners in Penang in the 19th and early 20th century. Taman Desa Ria has a mix of residential properties ranging from flats to apartments, condominiums, low-cost houses, to upscale bungalows.
Location
Taman Desa Ria is 16.1 km from Magazine Circus. It is not the most ideal place to stay if you are working in the city, as it is simply too far, and you will wade through congested roads all the way. It is more appropriate for people working in the south side, such as at the Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone.
Public Transport
Rapid Penang Bus No. 302, 305 and 308 pass through Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim. The distance to walk from Taman Desa Ria can be very far - over one kilometer, if you live in the deepest part of the housing estate.
Amenities
The nearest school is Sekolah Menengah Sungai Ara, followed by Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Chong Cheng and Sekolah Kebangsaan Mutiara Perdana. The nearest market is the Desa Ria Market in Taman Desa Ria as well as the Sungai Ara Market. The bigger market in the area is the Bayan Baru Market. The nearest shopping centres include Sunshine Square and Giant Hypermarket. The nearest petrol stations include the Shell in Bayan Lepas town and the Esso, Caltex and Shell in Bayan Baru. The nearest hospital is Hospital Pantai Mutiara.
Traffic
Traffic along Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim is heaviest between the Sungai Ara village and the junction of Jalan Kenari. The junction of Jalan Bayan and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim is a source of congestion, especially during rush hour, when traffic queues can slow traffic to a crawl.
