Wat Tham Khaopoon is a cave temple located 5 km outside Kanchanaburi town, past the Chongkai War Cemetery. The temple overlooks the river and the Thailand-Burma Railway from where the railway heads south towards Ban Kao and Prasat Muang Sing.
A cave system spreads out from the temple leading through passages niches where there are Buddha statues in the midst of stalactites and stalagmites.
