JEATH War Museum is a museum on the Death Railway built by Allied prisoners-of-war labourers under the Japanese in Thailand. The name JEATH is an acronym of the five nationalities involved in the construction of the railway, namely Japan, England, Australia, Thailand and Holland.
The museum is located within the grounds of Wat Chaichumpol, and was established by its chief abbot, the Venerable Phra Theppanyasuthee, in 1977. The JEATH War Museum faithfully recreates the living quarters of the prisoners of war. It also exhibits photographs showing the terrible conditions of the men working to build the Death Railway. There are also documents written by former POWs, war veterans and their relatives of the suffering they experienced under the Imperial Japanese army.
