Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road is a major road that connects the cities of Chiang Mai and Lamphun. It has existed since the turn of the 20th century, when it was just a rural road. Over time, it has been widened as traffic increased. Today it is one of the major arteries connecting the two cities.
The Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road is part of Route 106 in Thailand's road network. It starts at the intersection with Kaeo Nawarat Road, across from Charoen Rat Road ถนน เจริญราษฎร์ .
The Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road offers a scenic option to people who are travelling between the two cities, without having to use the main highway. A 12-kilometer stretch of this road is lined with Yang Na Trees (Dipterocarpus alatus), a mightly forest tree that offers a stately elegance to the road. The Yang Na trees were planted in 1911 by the first governor of Payab region, Luang Chao Phraya Surasihavisitsak. Some two thousand such trees were planted along the stretch.
