Sungai Pinang Hawker Centre (14 August 2015)


Sungai Pinang Hawker Centre (GPS: 5.40775, 100.31829) is a makeshift hawker centre along Jalan Sungai Pinang in George Town, Penang. There are several stalls selling here. The most popular among them is the stall selling the duck meat vermicelli soup. I have tried this duck drumstick vermicelli soup, and acknowledge that it is good, though not very filling.

Other stalls I have come across include the lor bak, wan than mee and the roti canai. Stalls that I have seen but haven't tried include the curry mee, Hokkien char, apong and nasi lemak, among others. I tried the roti canai the other day (7 May 2016) and found that it was not bad, even though my present favourite is the stall at Lebuhraya Jelutong Hawker Centre. The lor bak is so so, not particularly outstanding.

As for the wan than mee, unfortunately it is the least tasty that I have taken in quite a while, certainly the least tasty wan than mee I have taken this year. The wan than soup, which comes in a small bowl, tastes more like hot water than soup. No wonder I saw the hawker waiting for business while other hawkers were busy preparing customer orders.
