Lorong Melur 19 is a residential road off Jalan Raja Uda in Butterworth. It connects to the service road of Jalan Raja Uda on its eastern end and terminates in a cul-de-sac on its western end. The road is lined with two-storey terrace houses on its southern side, while on the northern side towards the western end stands the Taman Mas Apartment.
Lorong Melur 19 begins at its junction with the service road running parallel to Jalan Raja Uda. From there, it extends westward before ending in a cul-de-sac, giving it the character of a quiet residential lane with minimal through-traffic.
The southern side of Lorong Melur 19 is occupied by a row of two-storey terrace houses, typical of the residential developments in the Raja Uda area. On the northern side, at the western portion of the road, the Taman Mas Apartment occupies a significant plot, providing higher-density housing compared to the terrace homes opposite.
The name Melur is the Malay word for the jasmine flower, continuing the floral naming theme of many roads in Butterworth. Jasmine is commonly associated with purity, beauty, and cultural traditions in Malay society.
Lorong Melur 19 is primarily residential in nature. The two-storey terrace houses on the south side are family homes with individual plots and frontages. The Taman Mas Apartment, on the northern side at the cul-de-sac end, adds a contrasting form of multi-storey residential living. This mix of property types reflects the gradual intensification of housing in the Raja Uda area to accommodate urban growth.
Lorong Melur 19 can be accessed directly from Jalan Raja Uda via its service road. The location offers residents quick access to the amenities of Raja Uda, including coffee shops, markets, schools, and transport connections. The cul-de-sac design, while limiting through-traffic, provides a quieter environment compared to main roads, making it suitable for family living.
To the east of Lorong Melur 19 is Jalan Raja Uda, one of Butterworth’s busiest and most commercially vibrant roads. The surrounding neighbourhood includes a mix of residential, commercial, and community amenities, with hawker centres and coffee shops easily accessible within walking distance. The presence of Taman Mas Apartment adds population density and supports the demand for nearby businesses and services.
Lorong Melur 19 developed during the expansion of residential townships in Butterworth in the late 20th century. Initially planned for low-density terrace housing, the later construction of the Taman Mas Apartment introduced a vertical housing element to the street. This reflects the broader urban trend in Butterworth of balancing traditional terrace housing with higher-density residential blocks as land values and demand increased in the Jalan Raja Uda area.
