Craig Road is a minor road in the Tanjong Pagar area of downtown Singapore. It starts at the intersection with Neil Road, across from Keong Saik Road, in the north; and ends at the junction with Tanjong Pagar Road in the south. It also forms a junction with Yan Kit Road and another with Duxton Road.

Craig Road was named after Captain James Craig, a member of the Merchant Service Guide and a Freemason at Zetland Lodge. The area was originally a nutmeg plantation belonging to Dr. Montgomerie, a 13-acre estate extending all the way to Tanjong Pagar Road. It was auctioned off in the mid 19th century. Craig Road, as well as Duxton Road and Duxton Hill, is believed to have been built around 1856.

In the old days (early 20th century), Craig Road was where the working class Chinese lived. They called it Gu Chia Chooi Kia, meaning "side road of the Watercart Street (Kreta Ayer)". Today Craig Road is lined with restored shophouses that house bistros, boutique hotels and shops.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
