Persiaran Mahsuri Roundabout (2 December 2012)
The Persiaran Mahsuri Roundabout is a small roundabout in Bayan Baru, Penang. It brings together the three arms of Persiaran Mahsuri in front of SPICE. The roundabout was created following protests staged by residents of Taman Melati Jaya over the creation of the traffic island which prevented them from returning home.
A meeting was held by the local state assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin with the residents over the issue. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP), the Public Works Department (JKR) and the developer of SPICE (SP Setia). During the meeting, the residents opted to change the traffic island into a roundabout. The roundabout was created over a two-week period after the meeting.
