Proposed People's Park

People's Park is a public park proposed by the George Town Special Area Plan to be sited at People's Court, off Cintra Street.

Appreciating the Historic Significance of the Site

People's Park will border on People's Court, the earliest high-rise (now regarded as low-rise) housing estate to be developed in George Town, around the time of Independence, when the late (Tan Sri) Wong Pow Nee was the first Chief Minister of Penang.

People's Court provided housing to the low income group. It is located in a predominantly Cantonese neighbourhood which itself developed at the late part of the 19th century and towards the early 20th century, following an influx of immigrants from southern China.
