It lies between Hospital Kuala Lumpur MRT Station (PY18) to the northwest and Ampang Park MRT Station (PY20) to the southeast. The station began operations on 16 March 2023 as part of Phase Two of the MRT Putrajaya Line2.
Raja Uda MRT Station is located approximately 2 kilometres northeast of Dataran Merdeka, the historical centre of Kuala Lumpur3.
Raja Uda MRT Station serves the Kampung Baru district, one of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest Malay settlements that has retained its traditional charm amid the modern cityscape. The station takes its name from Jalan Raja Uda, a major thoroughfare that runs through the area and connects Kampung Baru with Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Semarak4.
The underground station was designed to improve connectivity to Kampung Baru while minimising disruption to its low-rise, community-based surroundings. Its entrances are located near residential clusters, local eateries, and small commercial lots that reflect the district’s distinctive cultural identity5.
The station is well-connected to Kuala Lumpur’s wider public transport network:
Raja Uda MRT Station serves several important locations and attractions within Kampung Baru and nearby areas:
The design of the Raja Uda MRT Station incorporates modern architectural elements balanced with motifs inspired by traditional Malay aesthetics, subtly reflecting the Kampung Baru heritage. The interior is finished in light tones, with intuitive wayfinding and accessibility features for passengers with reduced mobility6.
The station is equipped with standard facilities including elevators, escalators, restrooms, customer service counters, and ticket vending machines. Its entrances are placed strategically to serve both residential and commercial sections of Kampung Baru7.
The establishment of Raja Uda MRT Station marks a significant milestone for Kampung Baru, providing direct access to the MRT system for its residents and helping to integrate the traditional township into the city’s modern public transport grid. The station also eases traffic congestion in the area by offering an alternative to driving through the busy Jalan Tun Razak corridor8.
Jalan Raja Uda is named after the title “Raja Uda,” once held by a prominent Malay royal official. The name is also associated with Raja Uda bin Raja Muhammad, the first Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor) of Penang after Malaysia’s independence9.
