Kentonmen MRT Station (PY14) is an elevated station on the MRT Putrajaya Line, serving the Jalan Ipoh–Sentul area of Kuala Lumpur. It lies between Kampung Batu MRT Station (PY13) to the northwest and Jalan Ipoh MRT Station (PY15) to the southeast.
The station opened on 16 June 2022 as part of Phase One of the MRT Putrajaya Line1. It serves the northern stretch of Jalan Ipoh (now officially renamed Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in this section) and provides convenient access to the adjacent Kentonmen military base and industrial estates. The name “Kentonmen” derives from the Malay word for “cantonment,” reflecting its proximity to the Malaysian Armed Forces’ base in Sentul2.
The station is located approximately 6.5 kilometres north of Dataran Merdeka, the traditional Zero Mile of Kuala Lumpur3.
Kentonmen MRT Station features an elevated layout with two side platforms serving two tracks, connected by a central concourse. The station incorporates modern facilities, including lifts, escalators, and ticket vending machines, and is sheltered for commuter comfort. Its design theme reflects industrial practicality, blending concrete and metallic elements4.
The station serves a mixed-use area dominated by light industrial developments, warehouses, and military facilities. It is adjacent to the Kementerian Pertahanan (Ministry of Defence) Kentonmen Complex, which inspired the station’s name. Several residential areas such as Taman Kok Lian, Taman Million, and parts of Sentul Pasar also fall within its catchment area5.
Kentonmen MRT Station offers feeder bus links via Rapid KL, providing connections to neighbourhoods along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and nearby Sentul. The station also lies close to arterial roads connecting to the Federal Highway and Duta–U Turn Expressway (DUKE, E33)6.
The “Kentonmen” spelling retains the older Malay orthography of “cantonment.” The name serves as a reminder of Kuala Lumpur’s colonial-era military presence, as Sentul and Jalan Ipoh once hosted major railway and defence facilities under British administration7.
