Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Kuala Lumpur

Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Kuala LumpurJalan Dewan Bahasa, near junction with Jalan Maharajalela (8 July, 2016)

Jalan Dewan Bahasa is a road in Kuala Lumpur. it runs roughly north-south. It was named after Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), the government body that looks after the use of the Malay language in the country. The DBP has its complex on that road.

Jalan Dewan Bahasa starts at the interchange with Jalan Maharajalela. North of that is Jalan Hang Tuah. South of the Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka, it is a one-way road heading in the south direction. It ends at the junction with Jalan Istana. Much of the land on the southern half of Jalan Dewan Bahasa is used by the Kwang Tong Cemetery Management for its cemetery and related funeral parlour.

Jalan Dewan Bahasa has undergone several name changes. It was originally known as Flying Club Road, in reference to the Royal Selangor Kuala Lumpur Flying Club, which was using the airfield now known as the Sungai Besi Air Force Base. Flying Club Road was renamed Airport Road, and then Jalan Lapangan Terbang and then Jalan Lapangan Terbang Lama, all of which referring to the Sungai Besi Air Force Base, also known as Sempang Airport, before becoming known as Jalan Dewan Bahasa.
