Desa Sri Hartamas is an affluent neighbourhood in the western part of Kuala Lumpur, located about 9 km from the city centre. Popularly known simply as Sri Hartamas, this area is a vibrant mix of residential and commercial properties, attracting both locals and expatriates who enjoy its laid-back yet cosmopolitan atmosphere1.
Desa Sri Hartamas was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of Kuala Lumpur’s westward expansion. The name “Hartamas,” meaning “Golden Assets” in Malay, reflects its early positioning as a luxurious residential enclave near the wooded hills separating it from Mutiara Damansara and Bukit Kiara2. Over the years, its central location and accessibility attracted a large expatriate community, particularly from Japan and Korea.
The area is often described as an upscale yet laid-back suburb within Kuala Lumpur. Its streets are lined with cafés, restaurants, and boutiques that give the neighbourhood a cosmopolitan feel. It serves as a social and dining hub for nearby communities such as Mont Kiara and Damansara Heights3.
Desa Sri Hartamas features a mix of landed homes, condominiums, and serviced apartments. Property values here remain strong due to its prime location. As of October 2025, condominium prices range from RM700,000 to RM1.8 million depending on size and age, while landed homes may exceed RM3 million4. Monthly rentals average RM2,500 to RM6,000 for apartments and RM8,000 or more for terrace or semi-detached houses.
Desa Sri Hartamas enjoys excellent connectivity via several major roads and expressways. The SPRINT Expressway (E23) links it to both the Federal Highway and North-South Expressway (E1). The area is also served by Rapid KL bus routes. The nearest rail connections are Semantan MRT Station and Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT Station on the Kajang Line5.
Desa Sri Hartamas is known for its vibrant dining and nightlife scene. Popular spots include Plaza Damas and Hartamas Shopping Centre. The neighbourhood’s proximity to Bukit Kiara makes it convenient for access to the Bukit Kiara Federal Park and TPC Kuala Lumpur golf course6.
Despite its small size, Desa Sri Hartamas once had its own nightlife district that rivalled Changkat Bukit Bintang in the early 2000s — a favourite hangout for Kuala Lumpur’s young professionals and expatriates7.
