Bukit Kiara is one of the most prestigious and scenic neighbourhoods in Kuala Lumpur, located between Mont Kiara and Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI). The area is famed for its lush greenery, upscale residences, and recreational spaces such as the Bukit Kiara Federal Park and equestrian facilities. Once a rubber estate, Bukit Kiara has evolved into a highly desirable address, balancing urban living with a serene, natural environment1.
The origins of Bukit Kiara date back to the early 20th century when the area was part of a vast rubber plantation under British colonial management. In the 1970s, portions of the estate were acquired by the Malaysian government for urban development and public use. Part of the land was later transformed into the Bukit Kiara Federal Park and Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, while other parcels were developed into residential enclaves and institutional sites such as the National Science Centre (Pusat Sains Negara)2.
Bukit Kiara is characterised by its rolling hills, mature trees, and low-density residential developments. It serves as a “green lung” for the northwestern part of Kuala Lumpur, providing a natural buffer between the busy commercial hubs of Mont Kiara and TTDI. The area’s tranquil setting, combined with its proximity to major expressways and the city centre, makes it one of the most sought-after addresses for affluent families and expatriates3.
Real estate in Bukit Kiara is dominated by high-end condominiums, gated communities, and exclusive landed properties. Notable developments include Verve Suites, Vista Kiara, and Kiara Hills. As of October 2025, condominium prices range between RM1,000 and RM1,600 per square foot, while detached homes and bungalows typically start from RM3 million. Its combination of lush surroundings and elite status attracts both local and international investors4.
Bukit Kiara is strategically located and well-connected to the rest of Kuala Lumpur. The Sprint Expressway (E23) and North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE, E1) provide direct access to Damansara Heights, Petaling Jaya, and the city centre. The MRT Kajang Line serves the area via the TTDI Station, located less than 2 km away, offering convenient public transport access. The neighbourhood is also easily reachable from Jalan Damansara and Jalan Duta5.
Among Bukit Kiara’s key attractions is the Bukit Kiara Federal Park, a sprawling green space with jogging and cycling trails popular among nature enthusiasts and fitness lovers. The nearby Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort offers equestrian facilities, tennis courts, and event venues. The National Science Centre adds an educational dimension to the area, making it a favourite weekend destination for families. The neighbourhood is also close to Publika in Solaris Dutamas and 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama6.
The Bukit Kiara Federal Park was originally earmarked to be the “Central Park of Kuala Lumpur,” inspired by New York City’s iconic Central Park. While development plans were scaled down, it remains one of the largest contiguous green spaces in the Klang Valley, covering over 400 acres of forested land7.
