Bandar Malaysia Utara MRT Station (PY25) is a non-operational underground station on the MRT Putrajaya Line. It is located within the planned Bandar Malaysia development zone, positioned between Chan Sow Lin MRT Station (PY24) to the north and Bandar Malaysia Selatan MRT Station (PY26) to the south. Once operational, it is expected to play a key role in linking the future Bandar Malaysia integrated transport hub with the rest of Kuala Lumpur12.
Bandar Malaysia Utara MRT Station (PY25; GPS: 3.11841, 101.70505) is one of two planned MRT stations within the Bandar Malaysia development area, the other being Bandar Malaysia Selatan MRT Station. Both are designed to support Kuala Lumpur’s future transport-oriented urban hub, which will integrate multiple modes of rail transport, including MRT, KTM Komuter, and possibly the Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail23.
The station structure has already been constructed but remains unopened, pending the commencement of full-scale development at Bandar Malaysia. Once completed, the Bandar Malaysia project is envisioned as a high-density, mixed-use urban district encompassing business towers, residential blocks, and green spaces designed around public transit accessibility3.
The station site lies south of the Sungai Besi Air Force Base and near the intersection of Jalan Sg. Besi and the Federal Highway corridor. It is strategically positioned to serve as one of the main northern entry points to the future Bandar Malaysia precinct, with access to major expressways including the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA) and the Maju Expressway (MEX)4.
When operational, Bandar Malaysia Utara MRT Station will act as a key interchange within Kuala Lumpur’s southern rail corridor. The Bandar Malaysia hub is expected to serve as the terminal for the proposed Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail and link seamlessly with both the MRT Putrajaya Line and the MRT Kajang Line via connecting infrastructure35.
The project aligns with Malaysia’s long-term transit-oriented development vision, promoting high-density, mixed-use urban growth around key rail interchanges. Its completion will transform the southern Kuala Lumpur skyline and provide a gateway between Greater Kuala Lumpur and the rest of Malaysia’s rail network5.
The timing of the station’s activation is tied to the Bandar Malaysia master plan rollout. As of 2025, the MRT Putrajaya Line trains pass through the underground shell of the station without stopping. The station will only be opened once passenger demand justifies its operation or when the Bandar Malaysia district reaches sufficient development milestones14.
Both Bandar Malaysia Utara and Bandar Malaysia Selatan MRT stations were fully constructed even though they are currently inactive, making them among Malaysia’s few “ghost stations” — fully built but unopened facilities awaiting future city expansion6.
