Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (E29)

The Seremban–Port Dickson Highway, designated as E29, is a 23-kilometre expressway connecting the inland administrative centre of Seremban with the popular coastal resort town of Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan. It provides a convenient and faster alternative to the old Federal Route 53, significantly cutting down travel time between the two destinations.

Quick Facts

Overview

The E29 expressway was constructed to improve connectivity between Seremban and Port Dickson, which previously relied on a single carriageway route prone to congestion, especially during weekends and holidays. By providing a high-speed dual carriageway link, it supports both local commuters and the tourism industry of Port Dickson, a major seaside destination on Peninsular Malaysia’s west coast.

Route Description

The Seremban–Port Dickson Highway begins at the Mambau Interchange, where it connects to the North–South Expressway Southern Route (E2). It then travels southwest through hilly terrain and oil palm estates before reaching the Lukut Interchange near Port Dickson. The expressway is a four-lane dual carriageway and is equipped with toll plazas, rest areas, and emergency lay-bys along the route.

History

Construction of the Seremban–Port Dickson Highway began in the mid-1990s under a concession awarded to Seremban–Port Dickson Highway Sdn Bhd (SPDH). The expressway was officially opened to traffic in 1998, marking a key step in improving accessibility to Port Dickson. It has since become the preferred route for both tourists and commercial users travelling between the two towns.

Toll System

The E29 operates on an open toll system, with a single toll plaza located at Mambau. Toll collection is managed electronically via the Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG systems, consistent with Malaysia’s nationwide tolling standard.
