Jalan Sungai Nipah, Balik Pulau (27 February 2013)


Jalan Sungai Nipah is a rural road in Balik Pulau, Penang. The road was laid across a stretch of paddy fields to form a connection between Kampung Sungai Burung and Kampung Genting. It is designated as State Route P16.

Jalan Sungai Nipah is noted for its picturesque sceneries of the surrounding paddy fields. Having visited this road over the course of the last two decades, I have seen how it transform over the years. The road used to be more scenic long ago, when the paddy field reached right to the road side. Since then, many of the fields have been abandoned or developed. There are still some paddy fields on the south side of the road today (Feb 2013).

Getting there

Jalan Sungai Nipah is not served by bus, so the best way to reach it is by private transport. If you are willing, you can walk to Jalan Sungai Nipah from the nearest bus stop, which is at Kampung Genting. It is served by Rapid Penang bus 502.
