Vijayawada is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is also the biggest city of Krishna District. With 1.5 million people (2012 estimate), it is just behind Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam in population. It was named after its patron deity, Vijaya, and its name means "land of victory".
The modern city of Vijayawada came about in the mid 19th century, when it grew out of a small village on the southern bank of the river Krishna. Today it is regarded as the agricultural capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Vijayawada experiences a tropical climate, with hottest months being May to June, when temperature touches 47°C (117°F). July is the wettest month, with precipitation of 218 mm (8.6 in).
The tourist attractions in Vijayawada comprises mostly temples. It also has a number of caves. The city has had communist local governments before, and this is reflected in the statues glorifying Communist leaders such as Lenin and Karl Marx in the city.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
