Koay Chiap (14 October 2012)
Koay Chiap (檳城粿汁) is a soup dish of flat rice noodles. The flat noodles tend to roll up slightly in the soup, with is a dark herbal broth. Among the ingredients of koay chiap, apart from the noodles, include duck meat, coagulated blood and offal, and garnished with coriander leaves. Koay chiap is usually served with a saucer of sliced chili.
In Penang, perhaps the most famous koay chiap stall is the one along Kimberley Street. However, it isn't my favourite, which turns out to be the stall in front of Kim Hee Cafe at Jelutong Market.
