Lebuh Dickens

Dickens Street, or Lebuh Dickens, is a short street linking Penang Road with Transfer Road. It was named after John Dickens, a British magistrate who arrived in George Town in 1801, and discovered upon arrival that his services were no longer required, as the British settlement had instead set up a Recorder's Court.

John Dickens is not related to the novelist Charles Dickens (1812-1870), although there was a rumour that he has the latter's uncle.
