My wife with the Paper Dosai at Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant (24 June 2018)
Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant (GPS: 5.41802, 100.34052) on
Penang Street is one of our favourite restaurants. My wife loves to eat here, so we visited it every once in a while. When her birthday came around, instead of eating in a fancy restaurant - which we are invited to regularly - she opted for the comfort of her favourite restaurant, Woodlands.
On this visit, we ordered two of our favourites, the Chenna Batura (RM5.65) and the Paper Dosai (RM5.20). In addition, we picked out two things to try, the Mushroom Fry (RM7.55) and the Cheese Naan (RM4.70). We had wanted to add a fifth item, but our nice waiter advised us that we have already ordered enough food for two. So we stopped there.
The Chenna Batura and the Paper Dosai came quite promptly. I suppose these are the two signature dishes of Woodlands, so that prepare these non stop, and was able to serve them hot and fresh to our table. Both were as delicious as before. The Chenna Batura was all puffed up, like a big rock which is then deflated, while the Paper Dosai was superbly crispy.
It was quite a while before we were served the Mushroom Fry and Cheese Naan. These two came together. We felt that the Mushroom Fry had too much onion and not enough mushroom. The Cheese Naan was also nothing to shout about. So these two last items were a bit of a let down, but apart from that, we thoroughly enjoyed out meal.
