The provincial capital of Bình Định Province, Quy Nhơn has a population of about 290,000 people (2011 estimate).
The Quy Nhơn area has been inhabited since the 11the century, when it was part of the Champa culture. The town of Quy Nhơn was established in the late 19th century. The area is surrounded by forested mountains and rice fields. Taking advantage of its location on the coast, Quy Nhơn has developed its seaport and related industries. It is one of the three main towns along the coastal region, apart from Da Nang and Nha Trang.
Visitors to Quy Nhơn can try its local specialty, which is a type of noodle dish served with fried fish.
