Triple Q FZ Apom Balik (GPS: 5.33091, 100.27963) is a Malay apom balik stall in Relau. It is started by a guy named Zul who started the stall in front of Public Bank in 2015. Two years later, in September 2017, he opened a second outlet at nearby Lucky Eatery Food Court (GPS: 5.329101, 100.278015).
A friend working at Setia SPICE told me about this stall, and so I decided to pay it a visit. I arrived at the spot around 2:00pm in the afternoon and I saw that the stall, which starts at 1:00pm, was already doing good business, with an unending stream of customers. The "Malay apom balik" sold here is the same as what we call ban1 cien3 koay4 in Penang Hokkien. (Apparently "apom balik" refers to a different snack in Penang Hokkien.)
Updates on Triple Q FZ Apom Balik
23 September 2017
Triple Q FZ Apom Balik is serving their apom balik at SETIA Fontaines Sales Gallery for free on Saturday, 23 September, 2017 from 10:00am to 5:00pm. They are planning to serve three types of apom balik - the Oozing Cheese Butterscotch, the Oozing Cheese Chocolate Chip and the Plain Oozing Cheese. They told me, "It's a local delight you don't wanna miss!"

Zul was at the stall, and he let me try two of his specialities, the Triple Q Serunding Ayam Cheese Meleleh Apom Balik and the Triple Q Cheese Meleleh Chocolate Chip Apom Manis. Wow, both are incredibly delicious. Although not cheap (the Serunding Ayam Apom Balik is priced at RM6 while the Cheese Chocolate Chip Apom Balik at RM4), the customers pay for the quality, as the amount of stuff given is not sparing. I can feel the mozzarella cheese oozing out of the apom balik as I bit into it.

Zul told me that he has been in the business of selling apom balik since small, when he started helping his father to sell apom balik at pasar malam. Then, two years ago, he decided to open his own apom balik stall, but giving it a modern twist by adding mozzarella cheese. This has brought him a new wave of customers from all communities. Indeed, during my visit, I saw both Malay and Chinese customers patronising his stall at equal numbers.
I learn that in addition to running his to stalls, Zul also works as a runner for Setia SPICE, which is how he got to know the friend who told me about him. I couldn't help being impressed by how hard working he is, as he has to man the stall until 12:00 midnight, and yet have to do his day job the next morning.
An original plain Triple Q Apom Balik costs just 80 sen (as of Sept 2017) while the top range piece with Beef Serunding and Mozzarella Cheese is RM7.00.

Why call the stall Triple Q FZ? The stall was named after Zul's three children, whose names all start with Q, while FZ are the first initials for Zul's wife and his own name.

Zul showed me the cheese he uses. It is an Australian made mozzarella which he uses on the apom balik. The 2.5kg block of cheese costs RM70.
