Bangkok tuk tuk are three-wheeled auto-rickshaws that are ubiquitous on the streets of Bangkok, and practically every town in Thailand. In towns where taxis are rare, tuk tuks are the main form of public transport. In Bangkok however, I would recommend that you stir clear of taking the tuk tuk for a few reasons.

They are not any cheaper than taxis. You have to negotiate in advance, and usually, on seeing that you are a foreigners, they will hike up the fare. Having to negotiate the fare - as opposed to relying on the meter - is sufficient reason for me not to use them.

You are exposed to the elements, the heat and the dust of the city. And yet you don't really get to see where you are going, because the the roof is positioned in such a way that it blocks your view.

Finally, unscrupulous Bangkok tuk tuks have been known to take tourist on a ride, literally. There are many con artists who double as tuk tuk drivers preying on the innocent tourists. This has happened so often that all tourists to Bangkok are warned about the risk. I am not saying that all tuk tuk drivers are dishonest. But considering the fare not being any cheaper than taxis, I would recommend that you choose taxis.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
