Rama IV Road ถนนพระรามที่ 4 , Bangkok

Rama IV Road (ถนนพระรามที่ 4 , usually shortened to ) is one of the major roads in Bangkok, Thailand. It connects Sukhumvit Road in the east to the intersection with Charoen Krung Road, Mittraphan Road and Song Sawat Road in the west.

Rama IV Road follows the course of a canal called Khlong Thanon Trong. The road was laid in 1857. It is therefore the first paved road in Thailand, surpassing Charoen Krung Road by four years. In the beginning, it did not have a name, but was simply called Thanon Trong ถนนตรง , which means "straight road". It was evenatually given a proper name, Rama IV Road, by King Rama VI in 1919. Khlong Thanon Trong was there until 1947, when it was drained for the widening of Rama IV Road.

Today the MRT Blue Line runs under Rama IV Road between the Hua Lamphong MRT Station and Queen Sirikit Convention Center MRT Station.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
