Mahboonkrong Center (GPS: 13.74555, 100.53001; Thai: เอ็ม บี เค เซ็นเตอร์, ), also called MBK Center, is a major shopping mall in downtown Bangkok, Thailand. It is located at the busy intersection of Rama I Road and Phaya Thai Road, diagonal from Siam Discovery Center.

When Mahboonkrong Center was open in 1985, it was one of the biggest shopping malls in Asia. It has 89,000 square meters of retail space and over two thousand outlets. The original name, Mahboonkrong is a portmanteau of "Mah" and "Boonkrong", named in honor of the mother and father of Chokchai Bulakul, who built it. Today the mall belongs to Dusit Thani Group. Although no longer its owner, the busts of Chokchai's parents continue to grace the ground floor of MBK Center facing the front doors.

Nowadays, MBK Center has a great concentration of mobile phone outlets, so much so that some foreign visitors thought that MBK stands for "mobile phone communication" or something to that line. The anchor tenant at MBK Center is the Japanese department store Tokyu. Attached to the mall is the Pathumwan Princess Hotel, also belonging to the Dusit Thani Group.

Getting there

The easiest way to reach MBK Center is by BTS Skytrain. The National Stadium BTS station of the Silom Line is right in front of MBK. Alternatively, one can also that the ferry boat on Khlong Saen Saeb and alight at Hua Chang Pier along Phaya Thai Road. From there, MBK is about 10 minutes walk away.
