Banglamphu is an area in Bangkok. It straddles the Phra Nakhon district a a small part of Pom Prap Sattru Phai district. It is located to the north of Rattanakosin, and to the south of Dusit. The Banglamphu area is where Khaosan Road, famous for its backpacker hostels, is located.
The Banglamphu area was named after a huge Lamphu tree that used to grow in the area and spread its branches over the area. The name Bang Lamphu probably means "Lamphu village". Khlong Bang Lamphu, the second of the three concentric canals that ring the medieval heart of Bangkok, was named after this area.
