Lorong Tanjung Aman 4 is a minor road in Butterworth, Penang. It links Jalan Raja Uda in the west to Lorong Tanjung Aman 1 in the east. Though short in length, the road features a blend of commercial and residential surroundings that reflect the diverse character of the Raja Uda area.
The western starting point of Lorong Tanjung Aman 4 is its junction with Jalan Raja Uda. At this junction stands a local coffee shop, a common sight along many side roads branching from Raja Uda. This marks the road’s identity as a neighborhood lane serving both residential and commercial communities.
As one heads eastwards from Jalan Raja Uda, the road passes a prominent residential landmark, Pangsa Tanjung Jaya, a 10-storey apartment block that rises over the surrounding low-rise landscape. The apartment is a visual marker along Lorong Tanjung Aman 4, signifying the presence of higher-density housing within this otherwise modest section of Butterworth.
Continuing along the road, one also passes the rear of a row of shoplots, whose main frontage faces Lorong Tanjung 2. This back view contrasts with the busy commercial frontage of Lorong Tanjung 2, revealing the less glamorous but equally important service areas where deliveries and utilities are located. Together, these elements illustrate the layered urban character of the Raja Uda district, where housing blocks and shoplots share the same compact neighborhood space.
Lorong Tanjung Aman 4 concludes at its junction with Lorong Tanjung Aman 1. Unlike the western junction at Jalan Raja Uda, this intersection does not carry a formal roadsign, making it less conspicuous. The absence of signage adds to the sense that Lorong Tanjung Aman 4 is a local access road primarily recognized by residents and those familiar with the area rather than visitors.
The character of Lorong Tanjung Aman 4 reflects the transition between major thoroughfares and smaller community roads. On one end, the presence of Jalan Raja Uda ensures connectivity to one of Butterworth’s busiest arteries, lined with eateries, shops, and daily traffic. On the other end, the lane narrows into a quieter neighborhood setting along Lorong Tanjung Aman 1.
The road’s mix of functions is typical of the Raja Uda area, where older residential blocks, newer apartments, and commercial shoplots coexist within a tight urban fabric. Its small size belies its importance in linking residential clusters to Raja Uda’s larger commercial ecosystem.
