Stesen Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal Batu Maung (31 May 2019)


Stesen Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal Batu Maung, or Batu Maung Solid Waste Management Station (GPS: xxzz) is a processing plant for solid waste. It is located off the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, beside the Batu Maung Interchange of the Second Penang Bridge.

The Batu Maung Solid Waste Management Station serves as a transit centre for the collection of solid waste before it is sent to the waste disposal site at Pulau Burung. Built at a cost of RM75 million, the plant uses a top down compression system, the first of its kind in Malaysia.

In addition to being a solid waste management facility, the plant also has a recycling facility, leachate treatment facility and resource centre. It is hoped that this plant in Batu Maung will become an example for other local authorities to follow. It was officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, the Right Honourable Chow Kon Yeow, on 26 January, 2019.
