Siew Seng Loong Medical Hall, 2008 (7 July 2008)


Siew Seng Loong Medical Hall is a beautiful two-storey building on Pitt Street, George Town, Penang. Located at 35 Pitt Street, it was originally a godown built in the early 20th century. The ground floor has a receded façade, which provides a five-foot way of marginal width. This five-foot way is no longer of practical use. Potted plants are place where that prevents free flow of pedestrian traffic.

An interesting feature of Siew Seng Loong Medical Hall is the overhanging balcony with its wooden balustrade of timber splats. From here, one can get a good view of the Kuan Im Teng across the road. The front door is flanked by windows with moulded pilasters between them. On the right side are two openings of unequal width with keystoned arches.
