Corregidor Island has the shape of a tadpole. It has a "head" with a "tail" pointed to the east. Inclusive of the tail, it is 6 km (3.7 mi) long and 2.4 km (1.5 mi) wide. The fort on Corregidor Island is called Fort Mills. It is one of the defences of Manila Bay that includes Fort Drum on El Fraile Island, Fort Hughes on Caballo Island and Fort Frank on Carabao Island.

Corregidor Island is today a tourist destination near Manila. This is due to the many memorial of the American, Filipino and Japanese soldiers who fought and died there. Among the sights at Corregidor Island include the Pacific War Memorial, Filipino Heroes Memorial, Malinta Tunnel, Corregidor Lighthouse and Japanese Garden of Peace.

The Pacific War Memorial is located on the highest point of Corregidor Island. It was built by the United States Government to honor American and Filipino soldiers who fought in the Second World War. The Malinta Tunnel was the sight of the last stronghold of the Filipino and American soldiers when the Japanese invaded. Today it has a multi-media presentation recounting the take over of the island.

The Corregidor Lighthouse is one of the oldest landmarks on the island. It was built by the Spanish and has been used since 1853. Although it was destroyed during the Second World War, a replica was built on the same spot as the original. The Filipino Heroes Memorial, inaugurated on 28 August, 1992, commemorates the Filipino soldiers who fought to defend the country against Japanese invasion. The Japanese Garden of Peace commemorates Japanese soldiers who fought and died in Corregidor Island during the Second World War.
