Wan Tan Mee at Peace & Joy Coffee Shop (12 September 2017)
There is a new wan tan mee stall at Peace & Joy Coffee Shop on China Street. It only started operating three months ago, when a friend of mine told me about it, and invited me over to give it a try. Turns out that the stall belonged to him and is being managed by his partner, Ah Han.
My friend treated me to lunch at his stall. I had the dry wan tan mee and the sui kow. For my wan tan mee, I specified that I like the noodle to be dark. I always like my noodle with dark soya sauce, and Ah Han made for me the noodle just the way I like it. It comes with three deep fried wan tan, slices of char siew and pieces of chicken meat.
The noodle was done just the way I like it, though I felt the portion is a bit small. Maybe because I was enjoying it so much that I finished it too quickly. Also maybe because they were also serving me the sui kow, so they figured out to make for me the "small size" plate. Yes, I checked and confirmed it is the small size, at RM4. Oh well, better to have not enough than too much.
The sui kow is also priced at RM4. It has three or four very large sui kow (prawn wan tan). The filling is minced prawn and chicken meat. It tastes good, but I told my friend that it would be even better if they have bigger pieces of prawn in the sui kow, as I would love to be able to see the prawn in it.
On the whole, it was a most satisfactory meal. If I should find myself in George Town, I would certainly drop by Ah Han's stall for his wan tan mee, though next time I will probably order a larger size.
