Smithton is a small town on the northwestern part of Tasmania, Australia. Located about 85 km to the northwest of Burnie, it has a population of 3,500 people (2012 estimate). The town is primarily an agricultural community where the people here are involved in raising cattle and dairy farming.

You can reach Smithton by car from Burnie on the A2 (Bass Highway), the only highway along the northern coast.

An eco-tourist attraction in Smithton, where visitors get to visit the nature site such as Dismal Swamp, a blackwood forest sinkhole. A visitor center provides interpretation of the site.
