Nowra is a coastal city located 160 km (99 mi) to the south of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. Combined with its twin town of Bomaderry, Nowra has a population of 35,000 people (2012 estimate).

The indigenous inhabitants of the Nowra area comprised the Wodi-Wodi tribe to the south of the Bomaderry Creek and the Dharawal Aboriginal People to the north of the creek. The earliest European settler in the area was Mary Reibey, who arrived in Australia as a convict but went on to become a successful businesswoman in Sydney. Reibey received a land grant for a site in Nowra in 1824, on the southern side of the Shoalhaven River.

The settlement of Nowra was officially recognized as a town in 1852. Postal services were established to it in 1861. Since then public infrastructure were improved. Many of the historic buildings in town date from this period, including a two-storey sandstone house built in 1866 that is today on the Register of the national Estate.

Today Nowra is a popular destination for fishing. It is also the site of the annual Australian National wakeboarding championships.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
