Logan City is a city located on the southeastern part of Queensland, Australia, between Brisbane to the north and Gold Coast to the south. With a population of around 283,000 (2012 estimate), Logan City regards itself as the third largest city in Queensland, its youngest and one of its fastest growing.

The inhabitants of the Logan City area before the arrival of the first Europeans there were the Yugambeh and Jaggera indigenous people. Captain Patrick Logan explored the area in 1826, going up the river which he found suitable for large vessels. This would allow access to the arable land in the interior. Logan named the country Darling, after the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Ralph Darling, and the governor returned the honor by naming the river after Logan.

After the colony of Queensland was created in 1859, immigrants began to settle the land at an accelerated pace. In 1869, sugar mills were built at a site beside the Logan River called Loganholme. This was the start of the sugar industry that remains to this day.

Logan City was proclaimed on 1 January, 1981, in honor of Captain Patrick Logan, whose name appears on various localities in the area. Apart from Logan River and Loganholme, there is also a Loganlea, Logan Village, Logan Reserve, Logan Central, Logan Motorway and Logan Road.

Visiting Logan City

Take Highway M3 (Pacific Motorway) heading southeast out of Brisbane until Exit 14, then continue on Logan Road (State Route 95) to enter the Logan City area.
