Coffs Harbour is a coastal city on the northern coast of New South Wales, Australia. Located in proximity to major cities including Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane, Coffs Harbour sees its population swell during holiday seasons. This is attributed to its pleasant climate. The population of Coffs Harbour fluctuates between 70,000 in winter and 100,000 in the holiday seasons.

Coffs Harbour was founded in the early part of the 20th century as a logging town. Lumber was transported by coastal shipping. Later on, the railway line was built and trains were used move the timber to the sawmills and jetties.

The town of Coffs Harbour was named after John Korff, who had to seek shelter in the area from a severe storm in 1847. When the land was surveyed, the site was accidentally misspelled, making it Coffs Harbour.

Today the timber industry has largely disappeared in Coffs Harbour, and its economy is now supported by agriculture, particularly the banana industry. Tourism has also become a major income earner for the town, which is close to many national parks. It also attracts short-term residents from major cities that come to enjoy its pleasant climate.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
