Miami Beach Public Toilet (GPS: 5.47806, 100.26836) is a public toilet at Miami Beach, Batu Ferringhi. Built by the Penang Island City Council and completed in December 2015, it is also known as Tandas Awam MBPP Pantai Miami. This is an upgrading of an earlier public toilet on the beach, carried out at a cost of RM1,056,044. The toilet is a two-storey structure, with the toilet facilities on the ground floor. There are separate toilets for the disabled, and an area for changing babies' nappies. Across from the toilet are the surau for male and female worshippers.
At the time of my visit (February 2018), it costs RM0.20 to use the toilet. Shower is available for RM1.00. There are also lockers for rent at RM1.00. The caretaker of the toilet also sells soap and tissue paper to those needing them. The interior of the toilet is beautifully decorated with plastic flowers.
The Miami Beach Public Toilet is being looked after by an elderly Malay couple. The husband used to be a civil servant. After retiring, they were somehow given the responsibility of taking care of the toilet for a stipend. They were proud of the cleanliness of the toilet under their care and happily showed me around the facilities. The toilet has an upper level that serves as a viewpoint. There are stairs and ramp going down from there. Standing at the top level, you can catch a lovely view of Miami Beach.
