UPM MRT Station (PY34; GPS: 3.00854, 101.70633) is an elevated station on the MRT Putrajaya Line located in Serdang, Selangor. It serves the campus of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and nearby residential and institutional areas. The station lies between Serdang Jaya MRT Station (PY33) to the north and Taman Equine MRT Station (PY36) to the south, with the planned Taman Universiti MRT Station (PY35) to be added in the future between them1.
The UPM MRT Station opened to the public on 16 March 2023 as part of Phase Two of the MRT Putrajaya Line2. It provides a vital transit link for students, staff, and visitors of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), one of Malaysia’s leading research universities3.
The station is elevated, with two side platforms and a concourse below. It features modern architectural elements and incorporates accessibility features such as lifts, tactile paving, and clear signage for visually impaired passengers4. Facilities include ticket vending machines, restrooms, and sheltered waiting areas.
A pedestrian bridge connects the station to UPM’s main campus area, making it convenient for university commuters. There are feeder bus services provided by Rapid KL that link the station to various parts of Serdang and Seri Kembangan5.
The UPM MRT Station enhances connectivity to southern Selangor, allowing passengers to travel efficiently between Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station and Kuala Lumpur city centre via the MRT Putrajaya Line. The station is also near the Federal Highway and the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP), providing access for motorists6.
Prominent landmarks near the station include the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) campus, Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), and various research and agricultural institutes. Several residential areas such as Taman Serdang Perdana and Taman Sri Serdang are also within reach7.
The proposed Taman Universiti MRT Station will be located between UPM and Serdang Jaya MRT stations, further enhancing access for the surrounding community. This provisional station is expected to be developed in a future phase as ridership demand increases8.
The UPM MRT Station is the only station in Malaysia named after a university and is directly associated with one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions9.
