Saratok (GPS: 1.73879, 111.33784) is a town and capital of the Saratok district in the Betong Division of Sarawak. Saratok has a population of 44,600 as of 2000. The Iban forms the majority, at 51%, followed by Malay (40%), Chinese, Bidayuh and Melanaus. The Ibans in Saratok still live in longhouses. They plant paddy and pepper. Some also tap rubber and work in oil palm plantations.

The best time to visit Saratok is during the Saratok Regatta, a boat-racing festival that takes place on the first weekend of July. Events include boat rowing and duck catching competition. That is when the town takes on a festive mood, temporary stalls are set up to sell food at the parking lot between the wet market and the Buddhist temple nearby.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
