Airport Road Outcrop (GPS: 4.3644, 113.97914) is a natural formation along the road between
Miri and its airport. This natural laterite outcrop has many layers, and provide geological enthusiasts with an idea of how the land surrounding Miri was formed, as it was pushed out from the seabed some 10-15 million years ago.
I have been searching for this sight for a while from the time I first learned about it many years ago. Going along the road beside the Miri Airport, I found nothing. It was only later (and not when I am in Miri) that I found that, the Airport Road Outcrop is located on Jalan Miri-Bintulu, across from
Taman Awam Miri. I suppose this was part of the airport road. Anyway, from Google Street View, I saw that there is a signboard providing interpretation of this sight. It is not an outcrop per se, but rather a cliff side that exposes the strata of the terrain.
